This is the week that most Americans get into the spirit of giving. We begin to see Red Cross volunteers in Santa hats outside of the grocery store and homeless shelters being flooded with people coming to feed the homeless. But this year will be a lot different. Social distancing has made most holiday charity traditions obsolete. However, more people than ever before need help. Here are two of my favorite charities to consider donating to this year:
Homeless Prenatal Program
“The Homeless Prenatal Program is a nationally-recognized family resource center in San Francisco that empowers homeless and low-income families, particularly mothers motivated by pregnancy and parenthood, to find within themselves the strength and confidence they need to transform their lives. We serve over 3,500 low-income and homeless families annually, providing a variety of programs and services to help families become healthy, stable, and self-sufficient.”
Fam 1st Family Foundation
“Founded in 2011, the Fam 1st Family Foundation was established to ensure that youth from Oakland, California were provided with opportunities to expand their horizons through sports and family support services. Since its inception, the Fam 1st Family has served youth around the world. Using sports as a metaphor for life emphasizing adaptability, resilience, and determination. “
So many people have lost their jobs, are at risk of losing their homes, and can’t pay their bills. I want to encourage everyone to look around in their community to see where you could help. This could be donating to one of my favorite charities or just offering to buy a friend's groceries for the week. Even if you’re short on cash you can still be helpful to people in your community. Schedule a weekly call with a friend who may be feeling stressed or lonely. Write a letter to a friend, family member, or neighbor about a funny memory you all share or how appreciative you are to have them in your life.
I appreciate everyone who has supported my business by purchasing a candle or spreading the word! I hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving. Don’t forget to check out my brand new November Edition Fall Pack!
